DVD - Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease:
Lyn and Tom are an exceptional couple, including how openly they can discuss Lyn’s dementia. This DVD shows that speaking about it is necessary, possible and helpful. Lyn and Tom were previously filmed at the Alzheimer Café in Farnborough, but here, they give us a glimpse of life in their home.
They relate the past, present and future:
the mis-diagnosis and confusion preceding the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease
how Lyn had to stop nursing and driving
the types of ‘mistakes’ she makes
how the family members have agreed to deal with them
the misunderstandings that can happen when Lyn is emotional
how she fills her day now
The discussions are interspersed with scenes of Tom’s efforts to remodel their home to help Lyn. She has some of the characteristic visuoperceptual difficulties associated with Alzheimer’s disease, one of which is that coming downstairs alone is difficult, so they are moving their bedroom downstairs.
